How Often Should I See a Dentist?

We strongly recommend everyone visits us at six monthly intervals. This is because dental health can change quite quickly and keeping a close eye on your teeth and gums allows us to detect any small problems, hopefully before they can begin causing discomfort or pain. During your regular check-up, we will carefully assess the condition of your teeth and gums so we can monitor or treat any changes. Any small cavities can soon be treated, as can the first signs of gum disease.

How Will Any Problems Be Treated?

If we do find anything wrong then you will receive a full treatment plan from our dentist. This will include all possible options and costs and all the treatment choices will be fully discussed with you.

If you need a filling then we are an amalgam-free dental practice so your new filling will blend in with your natural teeth and will be virtually invisible. It can be made from either composite resin or larger fillings are repaired with porcelain fillings known as inlays and onlays as these are stronger and harder wearing. If you have an infected tooth then we will use the very latest root canal therapy to remove the infection before restoring the tooth with a filling or a crown. We know some people find the idea of root canal therapy a bit daunting, but it shouldn’t feel any worse than having an ordinary filling and it is great for relieving discomfort and pain.

Often a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy will require a more complex restoration. This is because it may have lost a significant part of its structure and will need a complete tooth build up prior to being crowned. To do this, we will need to build up or replace some of this structure using specialised materials to help strengthen your tooth, before placing your new crown. Once treatment is completed, your newly restored tooth should look natural and will feel very comfortable.

What Else Can I Expect during My Dental Examination?

Your dental check-up is a comprehensive examination during which we will do far more than just examine your teeth. Our dentist in Wagga Wagga will closely examine your gums and will take detailed measurements to detect any small changes to gum health. Your dental exam also includes an oral cancer screening. This is a quick and non-invasive process that simply involves closely examining all your oral tissues. We will be looking for any signs of colour changes or changes to the texture of these tissues, or any unexplained lumps, bumps or sore patches that could require further investigation. It is unlikely that we will find anything wrong, but if we do an early diagnosis makes treatment that much easier and more effective.

Will My Teeth Be Cleaned?

We will professionally clean your teeth during your examination as this is a great treatment for keeping gums healthy. If you have any signs of gum disease then we may recommend you have your teeth and gums deep cleaned. This process is called scaling and planing and is very similar to a normal scale and polish but takes things a step further, removing hardened plaque or calculus from exposed tooth roots.

Can You Give Me Information on How to Look after My Teeth at Home?

Dental education is very important to us and we can give you lots of information on how to brush more effectively and particularly how to floss more easily as we know many people struggle with this task. Additionally, we can also give you information on your diet, as what you eat and how frequently you eat it can make a real difference to your dental health.

We want you to enjoy all the benefits of good dental health so please do ask us if there is something you would like to know as we are here to help you. You can call us on (02) 6922 6840 or visit us at Kooringal Mall, 32/269-293 Lake Albert Road, Kooringal NSW 2650.
